Bernie Sanders failed spectacularly on one of the most monumental issues in recent history, Trump/Russia, and I don’t see many of his media fanboys and girls making any effort to reckon with that fact

Bernie was simply trying to not alienate large parts of the Dem electorate by going full denial on Trump/Russia His 2020 run is too important to derail over something as dumb as Mueller investigation. It’s an issue he hasn’t even talked about that often, so you’re exaggerating

It wasn't a "grave failing." Sanders simply asked questions and emphasized the need for an investigation. Honestly Michael you have proven yourself to be as bad or worse than the people you criticize with your hyperbole and sweeping generalizations. It borders on parody at times.

He's a troll. That's all he ever was in the first place & tyt made a horrible decision by deciding to bring him on & they are responsible for giving a troll the appearance of being a journalist. Trolling is all the right has it means nothing 2 them.I expect more from progressives

While I myself have long fought the many inaccurate & false claims involved with “RussiaGate,” I have luxury of doing that while not seeking higher office. You’ve correctly noted that people that get it wrong were feted, & people that got it right were isolated.
-
The question is whether Bernie was “wrong” for strategic reasons or if he was wrong because he was fooled. I’d argue that his comment in 2017 that “Russia” was a distraction from more urgent issues indicates he decided he couldn’t sacrifice everything to be right on RussiaGate

Disagree. There an infinite number of maximal positions he could stake out. This is 1. It's good to point out but the next step is analyzing why some are violable and some are not, what structural forces and contradictions are in play, and how to interpret all of that.

You more than anybody should be aware of the costs and totalizing nature of this thing. We agree that "the left" mostly compromised and encouraged RG so I don't see where Bernie draws any air during the politicized social/moral panic to push back.

Most of us recognize that Bernie could have been far better on RussiaGate. You're right about that aspect . BUT - we regularly called him out on Twitter for this - that's where you are wrong.
-
Yup, for sure. I called him on it as well. It doesn’t mean that I will no longer support him, though. He was wrong on that one, but he is right about a lot of other things

No. Sanders wasn’t on the wrong side of this issue for three years. However, I’m sure he’ll be punished as harshly as all the reporters and politicians who were. Which will be equal to the punishment meted out to all those who were on the wrong side of the Iraq WMD story. None.
