It's easy for left-wingers to point and laugh at Maddow for how epically wrong she was on Trump/Russia. It's much harder to analyze why even Online Progressive™ media like @TheYoungTurks @majorityfm @davidpakmanshow not only fell for the scam, but gave it "progressive" cover

My theory: it was a combination of commercial incentives (the story drove huge ratings/clicks/views), a desire to maintain respectability with liberal institutions (MSNBC) for careerist reasons, blinding anti-Trump rage, and then some pure stupidity thrown in for good measure

I saw the change at TYT, investigative journalism and varied topics were very much what they were about. The last two years however a constant vapid diet of Russia/Trump

I think that TYT took a hit in subscribers when they bent their knee to Crooked H. Trump-Russia made them, or made Cenk (love @jimmy_dore and @KyleKulinski) feel better about their tomfoolery in co-signing Democratic party corruption.

TYT could see what happened to anyone who challenged the narrative. Simple cowardice can explain part of their inability to question it.pic.twitter.com/5TpzSN1PXW

It may be simpler than that: They thought they would find something good enough to spin. They thought they would get away with it. If they had succeeded then we wouldn’t be asking these questions.

These are all situations where a single strong will drives the programming content. It's reflective of the personality of an individual that drives the organization. Like Cenk does for the TYTs. My hypothesis anyway.

And pushed by Clintonites and other neo-liberal elites along with Deep State actors as cover and diversion for their bankrupt ideology...as well that Russia-scare mongering is always good for the business and bottom line of the MIC.

It’s also the way to help preserve the status quo, distracting people from what is actually going on. The appeal of the status quo is powerful, even among the seemingly unconventional types like TYT and Colbert.

I think you are missing some of the nuance, from what I saw during the course of the coverage was the 'lefty outlets' you mention talk far more about money laundering, than direct collusion. Although yes that was also spoken of as well. Nuance is important and missing.

Plotted since about 2006. ALWAYS about money when it comes to our sociopaths. https://whatifitoldyouthis.blogspot.com/2018/07/lets-take-brief-look-at-what-has-been.html …
