Tulsi tonight threw some cold water on “abolish ICE” sloganeering, says that won’t address the root causes of the current refugee crisispic.twitter.com/HoXOYuIQkL

My view: The nature of the sprawling federal law enforcement apparatus is such that if you abolish ICE, another agency (or agencies) would just start performing the same tasks. Abolishing ICE means nothing without systemic changes. It’s little more than a symbolic Twitter slogan

Ahhh yes the far more erudite solution of "just fix the structural problems". Thanks Michael

Bad take. Political slogans are important and have always been symbolic. "Abolish ICE" as a slogan has been wildly successful and is a powerful rallying cry far beyond twitter. Slogans have always played an important part in mass movements for systemic change for a good reason.

This sounds like you (and Tulsi) are saying that getting rid of ICE is merely putting a bandaid on the problem. Perhaps true, but while one bandaid can't heal massive issues, the first step should still be to stop the bleeding.

perhaps why those most genuine seeming about actual change say “prosecute ICE” rather than merely “abolish ICE.”

Maybe we try an immigration policy that vets immigrants and welcomes those that are truly trying to get a better life. Just like every other time in our history.

You put up a decent front of "cant pin me on an ideology" intellectual eclecticism, but the inner reactionary never fails to reveal itself when it comes to immigration.

An open border is a neoliberal pipedream that would only benefit the 1% by destroying the value of labor. Immigration enforcement protects working families from 1% globalist economic policies.

In theory, the people who abolished ICE could then target whatever scum flowed into the hole they left. ...But yes, the USA needs to reinstate proper habeas corpus, abolish the drug laws, and a host of other restorative acts.
