A high percentage of Americans supported the Iraq War because the sources they relied on for accurate information, such as journalists and politicians, deceived them. But elites love to blame regular citizens, as if the Average Joe had time to parse Paul Wolfowitz's assertions

The more interesting question is why did so many Americans rely on MSM to receive the news when they had always had such a poor record

I fear this goes far deeper than the MSM narrative about WMDs and to the core US belief (one sadly shared by the average Joe, albeit it is distorted by the elites), that the US is "exceptional" and as such noble in its intentions and infallible. #USAhttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1105907724741734402 …

Huh? Expecting CNN's *expert*, a former President of the World Bank, U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, and former dean at Johns Hopkins University & a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, to TELL THE TRUTH? Who'd ever do that?

Many were told that this was what God wanted. The press would shoot Bush with halos over his head a lot. The New York Times out and out lied to support them. But it's all our fault.

Lots of alt news sources on the internet today unlike then. Even so, wondering what % of Americans support regime change in VZ considering MSM is pro regime change but several alternative news sources are not. What effect is the internet having or aren't people fooled as easily?

Prior to the Iraq invasion, I subscribed to the Chicago Tribune. If you read only the headlines and the front page articles you likely would believe the WMDs pretext. If you read all of the articles buried deeper in the paper, it was apparent that there was no real case for war.

The good news is, more and more people are waking up or we wouldn't have establishment gatekeepers like NewsGuard and all their shills (like Pierre Omidyar) trying to herd them back into the fold.https://twitter.com/pmcall/status/1106008241916526592 …

It's OK. I think it's a badge of honor not to be taken seriously by the "serious" establishment people like Pierre who are pushing the NewsGuard gatekeeping operation of Steven Brill, (Ret.) Gen. Michael Hayden (NSA/CIA), Tom Ridge, Richard (propaganda is good) Stengel, et al.
