Considering what the FBI was recommending, he got off easy.

And that's the problem, and has been so for about 30 years; cops and prosecutors control sentencing more than judges.

we just love putting the wrong people in prison for crazy amounts of time, especially here in California

For me personally, and for a lot of other leftists I'm sure, the outrage is more how comparatively light his sentence is when put alongside other people who get far more years thrown at them for lesser offenses.

Most people I've seen comment on Manafort's sentence are comparing it to the sentences of those who did things infinitely less harmful than Manafort.

You're engagement trolling, most liberals I know are more comparing the sentence for these elevated crimes to what a run-of-the-mill poor person experienced every day in our broken system.

They have no notion of prison. I wonder if everyone volunteered to spend a night in jail if everything would change

Indeed. I did 5.5 in Arizona for a non-violent crime. I can go on for hours about all the life experiences, family events, and personal opportunities I lost

Well ,you would have to stab a nun through the eyeballs before you get that kind of sentence in Europe . My guess is that 7.5 years in an American jail is going to make you shit your pants .

I C people calling 4 jail time 4 the parents cheating 2 get their kids in2 college. They reference it back 2 minorities/poor having harsh sentences 4 fraud around getting their kids in2 better high schools. Criminal justice reform means, nobody should B over punished/less jail

7 1/2 years in prison is a very long sentence. It's one-tenth of the average human life and it's appropriate for the crimes Paul Manafort committed. We have internalized a criminal justice system that disgustingly oversentences people so it appears light.

When “non-violent” offenses are major geopolitical manipulation (in this case for Nazi sympathizing or straight up Nazi Ukrainians) in monetary
#s that would save the lives of hundreds if used for good instead of greed—there is no comparison to the crimes of the poor. Stop this.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
