"Hill to die on" has to be the among the most consistently annoying online cliches. You're alleged to be "dying on a hill" if you send 2 tweets about something. Most of these cliches indicate a fundamental incapacity for original thought by the user, but this one especially so

Other strong contenders: "now do ________" "nothingburger," which has somehow entered common mainstream usage "whataboutism" and its idiotic variant, "whataboutery" And of course the melodramatic Trump-era classic, "Let that sink in" cliches = mental/discursive stagnation

“Whataboutism” is one I really dislike because it’s frequently used to dismiss relevant arguments as magically not relevant. Very convenient way to ignore different dimensions to situations.

Michael: Please add to this list the slang use of the term "haters". An ugly swipe used to frame those with whom one disagrees. Disagreement on this or that does not equal "hate". The word has become bastardized. It, to me, is a new "four letter word" (not a good one).
