"Hill to die on" has to be the among the most consistently annoying online cliches. You're alleged to be "dying on a hill" if you send 2 tweets about something. Most of these cliches indicate a fundamental incapacity for original thought by the user, but this one especially so

Other strong contenders: "now do ________" "nothingburger," which has somehow entered common mainstream usage "whataboutism" and its idiotic variant, "whataboutery" And of course the melodramatic Trump-era classic, "Let that sink in" cliches = mental/discursive stagnation

It's also shocking when people who believe that we will never overcome basic injustices use the term "right side of history"

My least favorite current cliché is "which begs the question" when they mean "this raises the question". Argghh. Also, "that said, ...." and "having said that, . . . "

"That said" and "having said that" are the verbal equivalent of a comma. It's better than saying 'um', 'uh', 'like', but all these serve as filler words that can normally be skipped.

I always have a problem when people say “folks”. Like that makes these high prestige politicians and journalists super relatable to everyday middle Americans? Just call them folks instead of people.
