Big unanswered question is whether the all-encompassing insanity that has embroiled US political culture since 2016 will eventually subside, or whether the fever is just never going to break. I'm leaning toward the latter.

The news cycle leading up to the 2020 election will be totally unhinged. It’ll never settle down unless social media goes away

The issue driving division in 2016 was the dispossession of Americans by mass immigration and the consequent concentration of wealth in the hands only of plutocrats. Trump is making both problems worse, so we will get even more divided.

It's clearly a cultural symptom of the desperate need for real structural reform in US politics & economics. With any luck a Sanders presidency would really change things and quiet down the madness.

It will ebb and flow, but each new high will be higher than the last. Basically, we're all screwed.

These are the death throws of the American (and British) mind, hopped up on rage, paranoia, narcissism, and complete fragmentation into a million warring tribes. “Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.”

If there are profits $$ to be made by media and "no-nothing" pols still think delusion earns them votes (and $$ donations), it will continue. Deep Throat is still a prophet "follow the money". 🤔
