I’m not mad about it but i recognize The Problem that you me your mom or anyone other than a politically-connected huckster who’s been neck-deep in corruption for decades would have gotten a _much_ harsher sentence, and we all thought we were supposed to be draining the swamp.

It's because many - leftists, even - think that white collar crime is bad and the people who do it should face consequences, legal and societal, to deter all the would-be wise-guys and lobbyists and plutocrats. Owning libs may be deeply satisfying, but it's incredibly boring.

A) Surprised you'd roll out the same style of argument that you frequently abhor B) Sometimes scorn comes in the form of cries for harsher punishment C) He deserves our scorn, let the judge moderate it

strange that I've never seen you praise a judge for giving a light sentence before.

Every tweet I've seen is pretty clear about it being a comparatively light sentence for Manafort while others - without connections and money - get much more for much less. Not an unfair point to make at all and not the same as "lock him up longer"

This judge went out of his way to curry favor with the WH - he has a whiff of swampy corruption. Manafort laundered over 60 million and scammed Americans out of over 30 million in taxes. And that's just for starters. He's a lying, lowlife thug. And as of today, a CON.

The outrage over, e.g., Jeffrey Epstein's token imprisonment, is justified. And the drive to see a greater punishment doled out is reasonable, not about emotional satisfaction. Same goes for how the Justice System treats the great majority of wealthy criminals.

They really and truly wanted, no, expected Paul Manafort to die in prison... for no more cause than he dared be associated with the winning campaign. The outrage machine tonight is out for blood, nothing less will suffice. It’s truly bizarre.

I think the bigger point liberals (& progressives) make is that there is a disparity between different types of criminals, rich ppl crimes and poor ppl crimes. We all can find examples of lesser crimes that have gotten harsher punishments

Others like to talk about law & order until they or those like them commit a crime & the law orders them to jail. Then the law needs to be lenient & if it's not it unfair.

Why, of all defendants, does this war criminal get a sentence that falls so extremely short of the prosecutorial recommendation so extreme as to be practically unheard of? That’s our beef with this.

When ppl say “mass incarceration” I’m pretty sure they’re not referring to white guys with access to the most powerful ppl in the world being imprisoned after conviction for white-collar crimes.
