That the Trump/Russia conspiracy theory was ever allowed to take such firm hold in the populace is one of the most shocking media failures in modern history. Those few who saw through it from the beginning, like Aaron, deserve praise and recognitionhttps://twitter.com/aaronjmate/status/1103329218572767234 …

I joined @intercepted to talk Russiagate & how the crumbling of the Trump-Russia conspiracy theory offers an opportunity to become a real Resistance -- not, as we're already seeing, to move the goalposts. Big thanks to @jeremyscahill & crew for having me: https://theintercept.com/2019/03/06/american-misdirection-militarism-and-capitalism-reign-as-spotlight-stays-on-russia-conspiracy/ …

I never subscribed to the idea that Trump/Russia was bad simply because it was a "distraction." While true, it was bad because it was totally unsupportable by the factual record, and relied on lies + distortions. Believing it required a shocking abandonment of critical faculties

It reeked of opportunistic McCarthyism from the beginning, ridiculous red-baiting (anachronic & disinformed) & a good excuse for the NeoLiberal project w/in the Dem Party (Hillary, etc) to blame for losing the election.

The NeoLibs probably calculated that GOP Russia-haters (Romney'12) would swallow the narrative, made BEFORE the election [PeeDossier/Wikileaks=Russia] to give reasons to spy on Trump. The Pee was fake. The @wikileaks source wasn't Russia. PAIN. They never thought she would lose.

It will hopefully be universally mocked one day that those who challenged the notion that Trump engaged in a conspiracy with, or was an intel asset of, the Russian government were deemed outliers. Even the word "skeptic" is funny — if I don’t believe in aliens am I a skeptic?

Arguably this is a major media success, inasmuch as their goal was to inculcate that false belief into the masses. A triumph of effective propaganda, if nothing else.

Ive thought from get-go that: 1. Obama admin spied on Trump solely for pol. info 2. Obama’s ppl knew they might get caught, & preplanned “Trump/Russian hoax” excuse to use just in case. I would ❤️ to know who originally came up that brilliant idea!

The complete and utter phoniness of Killery's Russiagate hoax was obvious to anyone who cared to look for the truth in even a cursory manner. Kudos are to people like Aaron, not so much for recognizing it, but for being brave enough to SPEAK OUT about it.

Media failure??? No, Michael, the media has actually been very successful pushing the Russiagate propaganda as directed by the DNC. They've even started to spread it on Berne Sanders and Tulsi.Gabbard over the last few weeks.

Though I must interject that since the media is at least 99% propaganda I think that they consider their running with the Russiagate stories a success. Went on for years, and Maddow still tries & tries.

Much of the media was used to disseminate the baseless claims spewing from the Steele dossier. Leaks from intel sources, from senators & congressmen, from Steele & Fusion operatives themselves. It was a leak strategy of circular corroboration much of the media partook in.
