When people say "Twitter is not real life," just remember that the whole Omar controversy *started* on Twitter, and now it's roiling the entire Congress and could presage a permanent split in the Democratic Party. So yes, Twitter does "matter" whether you like it or not

I’ve been hearing doom-saying about Twitter since I first joined the platform 10 years ago. And yet, it just keeps growing in influence. No reason to believe that’s gonna change any time soon

Also, Twitter provides a window into the thinking of political and media elites that previously would’ve been inaccessible to the public. That can be easy to lose sight of. But it’s a radical change in how ordinary people relate to their powerful overseers

The massive and growing influence of the platform is all the more reason to be extremely concerned when people are booted off on spurious grounds. You are depriving them of something hugely consequential. Anyways, that’s enough for now. Need to get back to browsing twitter

Twitter inevitably creates social bubbles of like minded people that think they represent the broader population. Groupthink is the inevitable outcome.
-
People think the "ratio" actually means something other than a person expressing an unpopular opinion within a differing opinion bubble. The outcome is blocking and unfollows reinforcing these bubbles and enforcing groupthink.

Yeah, I have to beware of that. I am not sure it alters power or gets people organized doing things as much as reproduces power & makes people idle. It gets people to sit at home believing they are, tho. That’s the danger.

People do need to take the epistemology of their feeds seriously. I'm aware that I follow biased accounts. What I do with what I find there is the main concern.

Assume it represents the wider population is exactly what much of the MSM does.
