Trump could very well not be president without Twitter. John Bolton is currently trying to foment regime change in Venezuela with a Twitter-centric strategy. AOC now has insane levels of political leverage due almost exclusively to Twitter. It "matters" more than we appreciate

Does Twitter have distorting effects? Yes, of course. If you don't use Twitter with self-awareness, it can make you assume that your feed is representative of the wider US population. But that's different from saying it "doesn't matter," as certain world-weary types often do

I’ve been hearing doom-saying about Twitter since I first joined the platform 10 years ago. And yet, it just keeps growing in influence. No reason to believe that’s gonna change any time soon

Also, Twitter provides a window into the thinking of political and media elites that previously would’ve been inaccessible to the public. That can be easy to lose sight of. But it’s a radical change in how ordinary people relate to their powerful overseers

The massive and growing influence of the platform is all the more reason to be extremely concerned when people are booted off on spurious grounds. You are depriving them of something hugely consequential. Anyways, that’s enough for now. Need to get back to browsing twitter

I see that point. I think when people say the it doesn't matter is more in the sense of what people believe in terms of policy or how the wider population see a politician. No?
-
It can distort perceptions of the political preferences of the wider populace, yes. I've mentioned that frequently. But that's different than saying it "doesn't matter," which you often hear from world-weary cynical types

Social Media is where people learned about the racist attacks on Omar and where they shared info on how to let Congress know that while they may have forgotten who their BOSSES are, we were able to remind them. But the pressure needs to be continued. They won't stop trying
-
You mean by Omar. Not on Omar. By, not On. Insisting they were on Omar is in and of itself racist.

Twitter does matter. We may even be able to stop Trump’s illegal coup in Venezuela by countering the propaganda with facts

-
Totally agree. Twitter does matter. We are fighting an information war.

Some people do tweet strategically but most tweet impulsively. It is reality and it does represent true feelings. But I am not sure that it is useful to society. It informs quickly that is true but it creates many resentments and resentment leads to malevolence! That is Not good
-
The only malevolence I encountered within the 2 years on Twitter was the communist's elements Twitter is using. I thought I would be useful to society with my knowledge of socialism but I was soon silenced. That is my resentment that I haven't created.

Hear hear. To deny this is to suggest that the Internet doesn’t affect reality. Get real.
