      Michael Tracey Retweeted Ilhan Omar

The irony is that Omar is one of the few elected officials *accurately characterizing* the relationship between the US and Israel. She correctly notes that donors and activists with allegiance to that foreign state use financial power to influence policyhttps://twitter.com/IlhanMN/status/1102297465502474240 …

I have not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel, I have questioned it and that has been clear from my end.

For the people asking "why does she focus on Israel" -- because 99% of Congress also "focuses on Israel," but for the purpose of lavishing them with military aid and political cover. Israel is the #1 recipient of US military financing ($3.8 billion). So her "focus" is valid.

Israel is functionally a client state that could not carry out the policies it does without US backing. That's not the case with other US aid recipients. So maybe address her points on the merits, instead of being a sensitive snowflake and crying about how offended you are by her

But that's not a mischaracterization. How do I know? Because pro-Israel activists and politicians *themselves declare" that they have allegiance to Israel: constantly and proudly. So she's correct in her characterization.

This is all correct, but she would do well to remove the “praise Allah” talk and tweets. We’re long overdue for a public discussion about the relationship; but it needs to be a secular discussion.

God Bless America if it every became secular!!! Not sure what you mean, politicians always talk about 'God', why all of a sudden is it a big deal that one more of them to mentioned 'God'?

That is absolutely the case for other US aid recipients who have hostile powers next door. South Korea, the Baltic States. Do you think they'd be prosperous countries without the US bankrolling their security? Of course not. Same for Israel.

Could NATO function without US support? Could Europe or Japan. All of our closest allies are our client states. Why the relentless, maniacal focus on Israel.

China doesn't receive more US aid than all of sub-Saharan Africa put together. Israel does. If the US stopped supporting Israel , Israel would make a just peace and there would be no need to boycott

It is literally a client/server agreement. The US Mil manages warehouses in Israel. The IAF brings an ordnance chit and the order is filled. Effective. Fast. Deterrence. Prevents US escalation in a conflict.
