Jane Sanders actually had to proclaim that she was violating a taboo by identifying herself as “Bernie’s wife,” and that she was proud to do so. If that’s really a taboo among certain left/liberals, they’re even more fantastically disconnected from normal Americans than I thought

Not exactly what she said. She said being Bernie's wife was the thing she was most proud of and that maybe that's not politically correct to say but for her it's true.

If she hadn't said it, there would have definitely been people saying something about her identifying as just a "wife" or something about her being "held down by the man." There's a group of people on the left that's just as scary and fanatical as the crazies on the far right.

She could have just said “I am proud of my husband.” Or “Being his partner in life is one of the things I am most proud of.”

Are you kidding? I constantly see him substantitive criticisms of current US warhawks, spearheaded by neocons like Bolton and Abrams.

She sounds like a regular person having to make a speech and not entirely comfortable. I think it must be strange in the 21st century to campaign for your husband to be president. Who is a good role model for that? Maybe in a few months she will be one.

The taboo is that most Presidential candidates don't want yo be associated with someone who was caught committing bank fraud.

I think it’s more a taboo amongst the men hating radical feminists. I highly doubt that more than 2% of Americans take issue with it

Sad, if she is proud of her husband then I see no reason for her to not be proud of being his wife. Getting and having a good spouse is work and something to take pride in.
