Note how Omar is decried as the "insular" one because she grew up in an "immigrant community," but media elites comfortably ensconced in their influential perches, from which they complain about convoluted "tropes," can't possibly suffer from "insularity"https://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/1101487955666001921 …

My take, or what was my take, is that she was raised in an insular/immigrant community & either absorbed ideas that were hostile to Jews or lacked grounding in western history of AS and the language around it. But she's a member of Congress now.

As a Somali, she is far less insular given she knows war, dispossession, and displacement personally. These people think losing WiFi service for more than 10 minutes is the height of suffering.

Josh, who named his son after a commander of the IDF, and never saw a Middle East war he didn’t promote, can’t possibly suffer from “insularity.”

I've lightly read him since before he got on board for the Iraq debacle. If there is a more circuitous writer will less important analyses, in all these years I have not found one so consistent as Marshall.

In the context of American social life, immigrant communities are fundamentally more insular than any average American. That is what makes them immigrant 'communities'.

Is that the point at all? It qualifies as gaslighting to tell Omar that she suffers from effects of an insular community when she is describing a real problem of Israel's influence over American politics.
