Just double-checked, and yes: all manner of journalists, editors, and PR people are actually claiming that the "bombshell" BuzzFeed story was vindicated by Cohen's testimony, rather than obviously undermined. Just an amazing display of mental gymnasticshttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1101118024835366917 …

The core claim of the bombshell BuzzFeed article was, "President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress." If you read this exchange with Cohen yesterday as anything other than a flat contradiction of that, you're simply being dishonest pic.twitter.com/fQCqYD7u5U

You seem to be under the impression that “directed” means the Trump specifically told Cohen to do it. Cohen explains in his testimony that it was not specifically directed, but more expected. This is kind of splitting hairs.

It’s absolutely not splitting hairs. The former scenario (trump directed him), if proven through docs, is admissable in court. The latter (“I thought that’s what he wanted) would not pass as evidence by a judge.

You're missing a shit-ton of context here. This seems willfully cherry-picked to distort Cohen's FULL statements on the issue.

Amazing, It is exactly like a doomsday cult. Their predicted expiration date on existence has passed. What now? Their prediction was vindicated because it didn’t come true.

It's truly shocking. I had to double-check myself. From emptywheel-world to Buzzfeed's Jason Leopold himself--they all claim the original reporting has been vindicated and nobody seems to understand why Mueller pushed back against it. I despair for sanity in this country.

You can convey your desire for someone to lie for you without coming directly out and saying “lie for me this way about this thing” That’s the crux of conspiracies and the way a boss controls and directs his underlings. Plausible deniability all the way.

This is no different than a criminal claiming the voices in their head made them do it. This may also be the first time an insanity defense has been applied in a perjury case.
