What awful dystopia are we in when "I will do better" essentially means "I confess before the Inquisition."?

Add to this the fact that the last two to do this were, first, a Chinese immigrant and, second, a gay black man, both representing categories said mobs point out are underrepresented in publishing.
-
The second guy was also part of the pile-on who took out the first author, which is sort of hilarious!

The "book community"? Why is everything a "community" these days, even when it patently isn't? Madness...
-
Leftists deem things communities so that they can patrol who's allowed in and out. Creating that boundary is necessary for their bullying tactics to work. Their goal is to exclude wrong thinkers and that's not possible if anyone is allowed in. Walled gardens inside free markets.

"Policing books through Twitter mobs" does not seem a positive development for American letters.

We’ve truly entered the digital world where we do virtual book burnings before they are even printed.

Burning an author's book is bad enough, but at least most burned books get sold first.
