The core claim of the bombshell BuzzFeed article was, "President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress." If you read this exchange with Cohen yesterday as anything other than a flat contradiction of that, you're simply being dishonestpic.twitter.com/fQCqYD7u5U

The problem with the article always appeared to be that it relied on second-hand characterization of evidence. Sure enough: whoever provided the reporters those characterizations was incorrect. The central claim of the article is false, according to Cohen himself. Case closed

If you want to argue that the article was kinda-sorta correct, or about 30% correct, and dance around the issue that the *precise wording of the article was proven decisively incorrect* -- go ahead I guess. But you look really stupid. This is a monumental journalistic blunder

You critique media for making the mundane seem conspiratorial, but you're in pretzels trying to find ways to play down every new bombshell.

Pretzels? Cohen, the subject of the allegedly "bombshell" story, testified under oath that the characterization of his words and actions was false. There's no pretzels required to demonstrate that this bombshell was a dud.

If he indeed did direct him by using the “code” language as Cohen described as Trump’s practice in his testimony then article is largely accurate.

I recommend @FiveThirtyEight's coverage for reasons like this. They noted the good (Cohen countering Buzzfeed's claim) and bad (Cohen saying Trump indirectly communicated with Assange). The truth is typically in the middle.

If Trump and his aides were accustomed to issuing, understanding and executing “coded” orders rather than “direct” orders, how stupid do you have to be to insist they are opposites?

Yet BuzzFeed Ben is traipsing about pretending that somehow Cohen's testimony, rambling and circus performance that it was, somehow justified the piece that was directly refuted by Mueller.
