It's easy to be against "regime change" in principle, much harder to be against it in specific circumstances. That's why many on the Right who ostensibly claim to oppose regime change favor the Venezuela intervention. The unique circumstances justify it, they say. Same old trick.

No one's saying a full ground invasion of Venezuela is likely, but that's not the point. The point is the logic behind using US force to depose a foreign leader. Take Libya: no full ground invasion there either. Likewise, US military is now massing at the Venezuela border.

You should consider them now considering the US military is massing at the Venezuela border. Libya did not entail a full ground invasion either.

We live in strange times. The US neo-con right and the International Criminal Court are on the same side when it comes to Venezuela. The loony left, on the other hand, side with the thuggish dictator, treating the ICC as if it never existed.

If the US can justify calling for the downfall of Putin, Assad, Maduro, is it any surprise that other countries try to influence the American elections?

Regime change in Venezuela is much more sensible from a realpolitik point of view than regime change in Iraq, Libya, or Syria ever were.

Also important to note that (so far at least) there doesn't seem to be the same kind of drumbeat for military intervention as in those Middle East cases. The Trump administration seems to want to accomplish this through diplomacy (and probably the CIA).

These are fair points. In my experience, it's really just the libertarians who consistently manage to stick to their anti-interventionist guns.

Trump never was antiglobalist, he just said what he thought he needed to say to get elected. The way to differentiate himself from Hillary and the Republican clown car was anti-interventionist and to appeal to racists' baser instincts. He's never been consistent or moral

Did I miss Iraq’s Legislature impeaching and removing Saddam from office in 2003? Really stretching the analogy here.

Not incoherent. They're concerned about loss of American life and money and islamist jihad. So invading Venezuela is a non issue

it's a great issue for Trump. a bad regime where the people are suffering; allows him to fuel the socialism=Venezuela meme and be the strong man standing up to socialism here & abroad. a very simple message for his voters.

The best aid the American gvt can give Venezuelans is to void the economic sanctions placed against them.

Russia, Russia, Russia is the reason we should be interested in Venezuala. Maduro could have gone on starving his people in perputuity if they'd just kept the Nuclear Bombers out.http://time.com/5478644/venezuela-russian-bombers/ …
