FiveThirtyEight’s podcast crew just does the standard, aimless “what’s gonna happen” style of political punditry that has nothing to do with the empirically-driven approach Nate initially popularized. I still actually like Nate, but they should drop the above-it-all pretense

I tried to listen to them this morning and just got angry about the lack of actual facts and basis in their claims. It’s like they forgot the fact that they are the numbers people

They are mimicking their 2016 GOP primary fiasco exactly. Trump lead every poll after his announcement but they refused to see what was looking them in the face.

Those long form chats that they publish are all political gut reactions to the latest news. He also constantly complains about how poorly he feels the media treated Hillary in '16 and doesn't even try to use data to back those claims. I agree with you, time to drop the pretense.

There's one particular person on the podcast that drives me absolutely bananas with his shameless partisanship. Nate's pretty good tbh for someone who's presumably not a right wing. But he has become a regular pundit of the type he hates.

You can’t escape the incentives if you want to fill a lot of air time. Calmly discussing polls isn’t very interesting or time consuming. Arguing endlessly over what you think might happen can fill as much time as you want.
