Trolls who spout the term "horseshoe theory" whenever they encounter some political phenomenon they don't like 1) Have no capacity for original thinking 2) Neglect that traditional partisan divides are collapsing all over the world 3) Are mostly just idiots

Cassandra Fairbanks redeployed from BLM activist to backing Bernie on the Populist Left to Trump’s White Nationalist Far Right flank. She’s a pro-Wikileaks Roger Stoner who also DM’d with GRU/Guccifer2.0 & wrote for Sputnik. No “partisan divides collapsing” here, just Deza ops. .pic.twitter.com/wCL7DpvHXE

Although I usually agree with you, there are two reasons why I must now stop following: (1) unresponsiveness and (2) condescension. It's a pattern with you. Work on it.

And most often (as with David Duke and Tulsi), they fail to mention why the far rightie likes the leftie so that the reader assumes the worse!

It (the horseshoe theory) actually points to the similarities, namely authoritarianism.

Or I should say: authoritarian tendencies.

I think the baseline idea is that extremists on the left/right axis trend towards authoritarianism so they are actually closer to eachother than they are to the center because of that. But yes idiots do use it incorrectly but that's true for literally every idea.

I suspect "horseshoe theory" is a fallacy. The political spectrum imho is better represented by a "political compass" with authoritarianism present in the two top quadrants. I think the majority of people fall into the bottom left quadrant. https://www.politicalcompass.org

Horseshoe "theory" as classically usee states that the further left one goes, and the further right one goes, the more disposed to authoritarianism one gets, which itself doesn't take into account pesky anarchosyndicalists and anarchokinists.
