Trump's pro-regime change rant today, in which he called on the Venezuelan military to defect, was deranged. Unfortunately for him, Rubio, Bolton, Abrams, and the rest of the neocon gang, this overt interference could very well backfire and harden the resolve of Maduro loyalists

Of course the anti-Trump media and Democrats, who normally rush to frantically condemn his every move, have nothing to say about this (because they largely agree in principle). Instead, they'd rather moan about his mean tweets to cable news hosts. Warped priorities to the extreme

People are fatigued with warlords and their wars, intervention and regime changes. Only warlords benefit in the end. I think Americans are starting to wake up.

Correction: common people who pay attention to politics are fatigued. The vast majority remain wilfully ignorant.

What little moral high ground the Democratic party ever had they have now lost in supporting regime change in Venezuela. But it will keep those MIC dollars rolling in...

Interesting. You think Trump had any choice except to hire neocons for advisors? Let's say suppose he couldn't choose his cabinet and disagrees... Why not play along with a plan that will clearly backfire?

Why has the opposition in Venezuela been SO unable to capitalize on discontent for past decades? My take: because the incentives are all mis-aligned. The fringe is financed by US & friends who have no incentive not to go after the brass ring. Total privatisation.

Guaido and the rest of the Venezuelan "opposition" have been calling for the Venezuelan military to defect. In making the same appeal, the U.S. is joining Guaido's policy. It's a good strategy, insofar as it attempts to achieve regime change without violence.
