That could play a role but defense contractor sponsorship likely plays a much bigger role.

I don't think that plays as much of role in the day-to-day editorial decision-making

Curious: what are the specific actions that Trump admin has executed in Relation to Venezuela that are opposed by Putin? Not just talk, but what has been done that directly, negatively impacts Putin? Crickets?
-
Both Russia and China are concerned about collecting the significant debt that Venezuela owes them if there is a regime change.

Or they are pro-war shills that are highly paid NOT to consider any dissenting voice for peace and diplomacy. See? No binary logic required.

Glad they’re not covering it. Trump administration is pushing propaganda. This is yet another illegal coup attempt by deep state & military industrial complex. Interesting Pelosi supports this. That should B telling. They R really one party. Everything else is just 2 divide us

Theory: Maybe it's not newsworthy because it is a suprise to no one that Putin would back the socialist autocrat and also Venezuela is too far away for Putin to aggressively prop up like the Syrian regime.
-
Hahahahahaha. In other news, the biggest news story of the year isn't newsworthy.

Do you think they even consider what the consequences of another US-Russia conflict might bring? It’s also weird seeing the same former GW Bush Neo-Cons cozying up to MSNBC and Rachael Maddow

I think the public's appetite for foreign policy related stories is virtually nil. even republicans don't want to talk about this aspect of Trumps agenda. if there were a way to poll "do you honestly give a shit about this stuff, politics aside" it would be close to unanimous: no

Because it's never mentioned that our foreign policy has domestic consequences. The 2009 Honduran coup (which we tacitly backed) contributed to the country's decline, and it is now a major source of asylum seekers. Coverage of both the border and Venezuela ignores this context.

Another, perhaps even a bigger reason, is that MIIC & their contractors are major advertisers.

@mtracey One reason the MSNBC-aligned media has barely covered Venezuela is bc the Trump Admin is squarely at odds with Russia there, and they don't want their Trump/Russia mega-narrative interrupted.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
