Check out how the leader of the Intellectual Dork Web responds to my claim that they have an Israel-sized blindspot in their critique of "outrage culture." Rather than address it, he launches a meandering digression about whether I have proper credentialshttps://twitter.com/EricRWeinstein/status/1096976589554802688 …

Excuse me. Do we know each other? Did I back over your dog...or is this the way you normally open conversation with strangers on difficult topics as an objective journalist? Forgive me, but it does say “Journalist” in your bio. Do you subscribe to the journalist code of ethics?

Apparently some people are so riveted by this (still ongoing) discussion that they are desperate to give me money. I started a Patreon awhile back but haven't officially launched it yet. That said, I won't stop you:https://www.patreon.com/mtracey

I just spent two hours going back and forth with the IDW guy. In the interest of furthering public-spirited dialogue, I'm willing to continue: maybe on some other medium. But Jesus, that was exhausting.

Re-upping this thread, in case you were doing something better with your Saturday night and missed it (which is hopefully 99% of you). Make sure to find all the replies, I'm not sure everything threaded properly. One of the most bizarrely tedious Twitter exchanges I've ever had.

Twitter commenters have informed me I’m just jealous of the IDW and really want to be invited to one of their exclusive restaurant outings. Fine, I admit it. My dream is to share an appetizer with Ben Shapiro

I actually agree with some of the IDW's critiques of outrage culture, over-sensitivity, inhospitality to debate, tribalism, identity-obsession, and so on. Problem is, they're just as implicated by these critiques as anyone, but pretend to float above it all for marketing purposes

Absolutely! Do that. Because the single biggest story in the 🌍 right now is the meta story that journalism refuses to break. That is, we gave protected LEGAL status to a profession (journalism) that needs to be *revoked* if it will no longer follow its ethics in the Twitter era.

Your digression is getting increasingly incoherent and bizarre. Remember: the original topic was whether the IDW's critique of outrage culture makes an unjustified exception for Israel.

I have never heard of that guy and after reading that thread I'm so bored. The guy is so full of himself for being what he seems to suppose an "objective" person is meant to be like. But, he fails even at that --so it's just a tide of words seeking a purpose to exist.

All of this dilettantish intellectually posturing would be fine if the subjects being discussed were abstract, trivial, or only of academic interest, but the topic matter is ... real. It isn't a game. And people are over here playing tennis and being cordial. It's gross.

I actually like a majority of the IDW, Ben Shapiro, Dave rubin excluded, but it is rather obvious the market place of ideas do not extend to Israel.

Honestly, I hate ALL sacred cows (except for children). We need to have the freedom to criticize anyone, any Pac, any group regardless of their "victim" or "privilege" status. Criticisms should be judged by their merit, quality not by who they offend.

It kind of annoys me to see people engaging with people like that as if they are doing a good job of playing the role of the intellectual. When you take that nonsense seriously you dignify it. I thought your response was better than some of the others.

Dave Rubin dodged interview requests from me for months and when I finally gave in to demands of emailed questions I asked stuff like "Where did you perform standup comedy? Can anyone confirm?" He also asked if I subscribe to a code of ethics. Fearless inquiry of ideas!
