FBI's move to oust Trump is also notable for how paranoid it looks in hindsight. Nothing that happened subsequently indicates Trump was ever "compromised" by Russia. His policies have largely antagonized Russia. FBI was whipped up in the same hysteria as the media/general public

Reagan aides discussed invoking the 25th Amendment out of a concern that he was mentally inept (see: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1988/09/15/aides-87-memo-raised-question-of-removing-reagan-from-office/a9ec7c98-2783-4362-8d9c-af41664af057/?utm_term=.3a8754b7cd75 …). FBI discussed instigating a plot to invoke it because they deemed Trump politically or morally compromised (i.e., not health concerns). Big difference.

You don’t think it’s within the realm of possibility that Rosenstein believed the president was mentally inept? Lots of people, including doctors and theorized this based on his actions.

McCabe's characterization (that we know of so far) is that they plotted it on the basis of Trump being politically or morally compromised, not that he was physically or mentally incapacitated.

Beyond that, your discussions about plots and “autonomous actions” are flat out false.

If the FBI instigated a maneuver to invoke the 25th Amendment, that would be an autonomous action on their part. There's no claim that they alone could've completed the procedure.

This is what McCabe said: I can say is the deputy attorney general was definitely very concerned about the president, about his capacity and about his intent at that point in time.

“About his capacity” strongly suggests a physical concern about his mental health.
