The predictable result of the Parkland tragedy: intensification of efforts to turn schools into “surveillance testing grounds” using dystopian, invasive technology. There is always money to be made from capitalizing on people’s fearshttps://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/02/13/parkland-school-turns-experimental-surveillance-software-that-can-flag-students-threats/ …

No school surveillance here in Canada. No school shootings. Maybe it has something to do with gun regulation, a twisted culture, and a toxic view of mental instability and isolation. But hey, let's get the kids used to being watched 24/7 early so they'll be complqcent later.

Plenty of gun regulations. Definitely twisted culture and isolation. (not toxic view). It's all about parents and the lack of them in modern society. Damn shame.

Wouldn't it be too late if the computer system spots a threat? Wouldn't an armed guard on standby be necessary to make this system meaningful?

Also, note the other absurdity: ubiquitous school shooting drills foisted on kids - when the risk of a school shooting is nil ("Atlantic" March 2019 cites Washington Post for no more than 150 deaths in school shootings total in past 20 years). Are the lockdowns intended to panic?

If only there were some way, perhaps via almost magical 32nd century technology, to stop all these gun based tragedies. If only some amazing invention from the future would help us, via ways we cannot conceptualise now, to prevent gun based crime. Some new development in AI, say.

Sensible gun control limits profits and would be too easy. This increases profits and control of the population, so ca-ching!

the AI is snake oil.. its just high resolution camera system with pseudo AI which basically has 99% false positives.. Motorola is dead and old school tech company.. I would not trust anything from them.. Avigilon makes superb high-res cameras..
