The great irony is that Omar didn't have to apologize, politically speaking. Major swaths of the Democratic grassroots agree with her. She represents an electorally-safe district. She could've used the controversy to gain even more leverage and support. But she got awful advice.

How about this bipartisan bargain? We say that, across the board, saying “that’s racist/sexist/xenophobic, etc.” isn’t an argument in and of itself and that we should objectively weigh the facts, with no sacred cows?

She had was required to apologize or else face a potential censure in congress which would effectively cut any ability for her to do her job. No committees equal no power. The question is should she have called their bluff? i am not sure what the best option here was.
