Lots of people assumed that AOC was some fearless renegade simply because she ran against an entrenched incumbent. While laudable, that's not terribly uncommon. Beto did it. Obama did it. Hell, even Ronald Reagan did it. Signifies nothing in particular exception ambition.

Riding on issues made popular by the Green Party and Bernie Sanders isn't courageous. Speaking up for what's right when they are not popular takes some guts. Unfortunately, AOC has failed the tests on Venezuela and the smear campaign against Omar.

Beto won his race against an entrenched Democratic member of Congress. That's how he was first elected.

I don’t think that’s the reason why she’s viewed that way. It’s running as a Democratic Socialist slightly to the left of Sanders. For her base that knew her before the primaries, I know that’s what it was.

Michael: It is a "dangerous game" to invite the kind of unlimited publicity AOC has embraced as a first-term Member. Such attention may (or may not) be a positive in the long run. Becoming a serious legislator and effective takes time and study. Will she? Time will tell.

Congress doesn't seem very serious or effective given approval ratings in 2018 of 15-21%. Talking issues is what legislators should do, is it not? It's a new game & a new generation these days. The old rules no longer control. She scares many in Congress. Maybe that's good.

She says some things I agree with, just like Bernie does, but they are relatively non-controversial: rich people shouldn't be mean to poor people. And although not everyone will agree, I think that the Green New Deal is pandering to the rich people. It's an austerity policy.

💯 The Green New Deal is straight up ridiculous. It's worse than the Paris Accord, which spawned the Yellow Vest protests. And I say this as a nature lover who hates pollution.

I recall you being shocked by her win and celebrating it. You posted a picture of her as a bartender and remarked on the stark differences in the amount of money she received versus Crowley. Now that she has gained notoriety you’re acting like it was no big deal.

Ok sure, that alone might signify ambition. But her policies and stances have, with recent exceptions, been very laudable from the outset. Lumping her in with those other dudes is just lazy contrarianism
