This major structural cause of destabilizing migration patterns is constantly ignored by both partieshttps://twitter.com/tulsigabbard/status/1092977776066527232 …

The root cause of mass immigration on our southern border is our history of US military intervention in Latin America that left countries destroyed. Before we talk about a wall, we need to end our ongoing threats of intervention - this time in Venezuela. #SOTU

she’s talking about US. “mass immigration” ...we’re at a 40yr low of immigration. “destabilizing migration patterns”? exactly how are immigrants destabilizing the US?

this is worse than seeing the Kremlin or CIA behind everything, that working class Honduran refugees & seperated families are destabilizing the US.

There's mass immigration? And why would we want less immigration? But yes, less intervention in Latin America would be good

We have a right to protect and control our borders regardless, as do all nations. I'm for ending military interventions and other meddling in Latin American countries, but that doesn't mean we can't have more border security NOW.

It is not "ignored". The #duopoly support globalization as their masters - the #oligarchy - dictates so whatever pain comes from it is part of the "price" others must bear. The "others" being the poor people of these countries and the working class here in the US. #realpolitik

Yeah, the collapse of Venezuala is because of the US, not socialism.

The idea that the *root cause* is American intervention is pretty silly. The root cause is poverty and dysfunctional government. If you think that the root cause of *that* is US military intervention then you haven't studied the issue much.

And one of the reasons some of those countries have such bad governments is because the people most likely to demand changes in their own countries are encouraged to cross borders illegally in masses.

We’ve got migrants from the sticks in Honduras who can’t speak Spanish 500 years after Spanish conquest. You think the CIA’s half-assed interventions in the ‘80s are causing migration now?

No, we need to build the wall ASAP, and while its being built we can debate how to fix our flawed foreign policies.
