Michael Tracey Retweeted New York Times World

Interesting that the self-proclaimed president supported by all Serious Nations is steadfastly opposed to "dialogue," while the allegedly tyrannical ruler Maduro is pro-dialogue. (Tedious disclaimer: this tweet does not constitute an endorsement of Maduro)https://twitter.com/nytimesworld/status/1092603755521101824 …

The Times was with Juan Guaidó as he took a call from Justin Trudeau. “This is not the time for dialogue,” Mr. Guaidó said firmly. https://nyti.ms/2D6FeIy

Also interesting that Italy, which has supposedly been overtaken by scary, deranged populists, is the one country blocking EU efforts to bring about regime change in Venezuelahttps://www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-politics-europe-eu-idUSKCN1PT1G2 …

He's not self proclaimed, he's assuming an interim presidency under Article 233 of our constitution. Maduro's calls for dialogue are always a card to buy time and quell protests, they've done in in the past.

The West has never in 25 years of triumphalism evinced interest in diplomacy, which is a reason we have had so many devastating wars. And it took literally millions of civilian deaths before Korean or Vietnam wars were ended. This callous disregard for civilian life is inhuman.

maduro claims to be pro dialogue but actually used his self appointed supreme court to strip the national assembly of its power. Guado is right its more stalling tactics from a guy with no plan

When "dialogue" is about retaining as much political power and control over state institutions as possible and not about transitioning into a new government, product of truly free and democratic elections, then it's not really "dialogue", it's a delaying tactic and a farce.

At this rate you are going to lose respect of the "serious" people :):)...Canada should be called out for its utter hypocrisy...pretending to be a liberal bastion and supporting the worst elements, but hey, who cares

Nothing wrong with Maduro. Crazy that he's being accused of trying "stall" a civil war, by calling for dialogue instead of simply handing over the people of Venezuela to fascists.

Self-proclaim? What about Gerald Ford? Was he a self-proclaimed president? The National Assembly has the power to do what has been done, Guaidó is El Presidente.

Maduro’s desire for dialogue at this point could simply be an act of desperation right? How did he approach dialogue with opposition groups when he had a firm grip on power?
