Based on his recent comments to CBS, you can tell Trump had barely thought about Venezuela in his entire life until Pence, Bolton, and Pompeo started briefing him on the subject. His appointment of almost-universally hawkish advisors is a massive failure

LOL: Independent “thoughts”. Trump mutters inconsistent and irrational horeshit and claims retrospectively that he was correct: eg, Iraq.

He did post about Miss Venezuela in 2014. Maybe there is a clue.

This is false, Trump has wanted to do something about Venezuela since Day 1 and certainly well before Boltonhttps://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/12/world/americas/trump-venezuela-military.html …

But what exactly is the “hawkish” Venezuela policy so far? Apart from sanctions all he did is show solidarity to the opposition (as did pretty much every other Western country)

Well, I recall Trump attacking Obama over the fact Hugo Chavez endorsed him, and attacking Joseph Kennedy for being so cozy with Chavez, and that was years ago. So that would mean you're wrong that he's never thought about Venezuela in his entire life.

Wouldn't ignore Venezuela, lot of miss universe winners, seven to be precise: Miss Universe titles (1979 • 1981 • 1986 • 1996 • 2008 • 2009 • 2013)

As good as explanation as any.

With the previous wealth in that place I find it hard to believe he knew nothing about it Foreign investment in property development was huge a decade ago That is what Trump does Also note, that most the countries in the world have the same view he does

Time will tell if he pivots on the issue. No real damage has been had yet; we will see if he ends up doing something. My bet is nothing beyond economic sanctions.

Or he has no idea what is going on in any of those countries. He bucked "hawkish consensus" only because it was politically expedient (Iraq in the primaries, since everyone else on stage had supported it, Syria because he could take an open shot at whatever Obama was doing).
