No "resistance" to Trump on Venezuela because his actions are firmly in line with what Western foreign policy elites want. Weirdly, seeking to topple a foreign government isn't decried by screeching liberals as a "norm violation" in this instancehttps://twitter.com/Jeremy_Hunt/status/1092349500688158720 …

Nicolas Maduro has not called Presidential elections within 8 day limit we have set. So UK alongside European allies now recognises @jguaido as interim constitutional president until credible elections can be held. Let’s hope this takes us closer to ending humanitarian crisis

Imagine if Trump came out and said “Our plan in Venezuela is to invade and remove Maduro and his troops by force and in about 20 years declare a truce with him leaving him partly in charge” - that’s what we did with the Taliban and it’s just as insane.

I love how people justify these kinds of foreign interference. You'll get the, but this is a special case. It's okay just for Venezuela. It's amazing how we can be a part of endless overthrows before I leave and somehow each one is a "unique, special case".

Recognizing Guaido as President, who did not participate in or win a presedential election because Maduro may have won a rigged presedential election is the strangest logic imaginable.

How do you sit on the world's biggest oil reserves and have such a crappy economy? I mean besides all of this the guy is a uniquely terrible leader. I look at him and I just think "meatball"

There are internal issues but it's largely to do w/the sanctions US has imposed on them for years, Saudi Arabia flooding the oil market, low oil prices, and our limiting the loans they can get to process that oil. If the US wants to "relieve the ppl's suffering"- STOP sanctions.

Michael, most of your witty comments are spot on. But not this one. Venezuela is truly a unique case, it is a nation that wants to be Western and where basic human rights are being grossly violated. Let the toppling of the Venezuelan dictator be a universal cause.

The treachery of establishment Democrats has always been in plain sight. LBJ told us we must either love each other, or we must die. And then he won and escalated the war in Vietnam and a LOT of people died.
