Football has been proven to permanently damage brains, so the "fears" are legitimate. Children should be prohibited from playing, not out of "fear" but because incurring repeated concussive and sub-concussive blows will permanently damage their brainshttps://twitter.com/DavidAFrench/status/1092156370688856067 …

I strongly disagree with Trump's timidity about his son playing football. My son played, and it helped mold him into the young man that he is. Fear-based parenting can breed timid, fearful kids. Some thoughts, from a couple years ago: https://www.nationalreview.com/2016/02/super-bowl-football-virtue-victims-injury-courage/ …

Macho-men like to pretend that the only way to instill "character" is to subject kids to a violent brain-damaging game. If you're willing to make that tradeoff with your own children, you are sick. You're dooming them to cognitive/mental problems for the rest of their lives.

The character building is not from the football it is from the concept of coming together as a team. I concede there are other less violent team sports that offer the same benefits without the long term risk.

You could not be more wrong... Youth sports like ice hockey are more dangerous than tackle football. In high school, girls soccer rates are almost equal. As a football coach since ‘98, I can tell you concussions are a concern in all aspects, including ATVs, bicycles, skates etc..

there's wrestling, shooting, fencing... lots of sports with full contact and/or a fighting element - but no long term risks. Not sure why head injuries are necessery

That’s an aggressive accusation parents “sick” if allow their kids to play football. What else can children do that causes the “most” injuries. Bike riding there is one. So I guess young boys should just play Fortnite and all well.

Yes, yes. I agree with you to an extent, but you MUST BE BUILT FOR FOOTBALL! End of discussion. My dad was built like a Mack truck, and could handle it just fine. And this was before all the fancy equipment.

🙄 You can't force kids to play a sport, play a musical instrument... nothing. Every super bowl, the "soy-men" get jealous of the football players and get pissy online.

While life is taking calculated risks, I was very pleased when my son decided against football. He chose marching band, then later sky diving. Kids. Criticizing parents for being protective of their offspring is delusional.
