The article had been up for nearly three weeks before they decided that this incredibly shabby innuendo should be removed. (Shortly after I tweeted about it). Eager to learn more about the editorial process which resulted in this huge blunder.

Agree with this. The clear point of the clause in question was to insinuate that the large number of Hindu donors indicated support from Hindu nationalists, on the basis of nothing more than their names -- in keeping with the core theme of the article.https://twitter.com/RaniaKhalek/status/1089542204098596864 …

The "apology" also doesn't address why the "expert" they "consulted" to conduct an extensive survey of Hindu-sounding names was granted anonymity. Who is this supposed expert, and why was his or her name/affiliation withheld from readers without explanation?pic.twitter.com/A2iOVHOfQQ

If it's not out yet, I'm sure buzzfeed et al will come out with a "why does Bernie have donations from people with Slavic names?" article

But you cannot deny the records of campaign finance from affiliates of BJP/HSS/VHP in the US, can you?
-
It is an incontrovertible fact that the entire congressional career of Tulsi Gabbard was possible due to funding and supporting she willingly received from Hindu nationalist organizations whose sole purpose is to prop up the BJP in India’s domestic politics.

Pre-Tulsi, has The Intercept ever previously reviewed a list of any politician’s donors and tried to show they shared the same religion as the politician? Of course not. The Intercept’s article was pure religious bigotry.

Furthermore such 'errors' demonstrate the motivation of the authors. The Intercept and any other news outlets that wants the public to believe they are credible need to label such articles as what they are...a hit piece.
-
That's an interesting point -- most of the articles published by The Intercept have a very strong political bias -- but the ones concerning Tulsi seem to be pretty much hit pieces. I wonder why?

The uncomfortable truth though is that a lot of left-leaning people really don't like wealthy minority communities and sometimes that racism bleeds through.

Is Hindu a wealthy community in America ?

We gotta get away from campaigns that just serve to discredit others, and are only good as shit stirrers. Let us vote on principles not personalities... form follows function.

I have heard that she supports Mohdi in India, which is troubling to me. How close she is to the nationalist right wing govt of India?

The real problem: she's pro-peace

What drives this apparent eagerness to avoid a rigorous, comprehensive evaluation of potentially fatal flaws in a candidate for the US Presidency? Don't you want to be 100% certain that a candidate is really who they say they are? I find it utterly baffling.
-
I do tire of the schadenfreude. Candidates should campaign on issues, which would shine over the campaign of candidate who has least amount of error in their past. This hindu/modi thing (albeit disturbing) should be easy to explain-influence identified in tusli's actions.

Do people know that recently two former Democratic Presidential nominees, went all the way to India to participate in an extremely lavish wedding party where they danced on the tunes of Bollywood music? Did anyone bother to question anything about that? If not, why?
