It's good that the US is engaged in direct peace negotiations with the Taliban, and moving toward full troop withdrawal. But fair to note: most of the GOP would've spun this as unconscionable, treasonous surrender during the previous administrationhttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1089379932353036289 …

Taliban and US negotiators have reportedly agreed to a "draft peace pact" that would result in a full US withdrawal from Afghanistan. After 17+ years, the war may actually end https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-afghanistan-draft/foreign-troops-to-quit-afghanistan-in-18-months-under-draft-deal-taliban-officials-idUSKCN1PK0DG …

And the amazing part, it is amazing because there has been signs of success, is that every pundit and ex diplomat said trump was going to start wars.

I'm sure that Mika and Joe won't like this at all. I mean, we are obviously ceding Afghanistan to the Afghanis and Putin. I can almost hear Richard Haas issuing some dire warnings already. Only perpetual occupations can keep us safe!!!! We are "turning a corner". Six more months!

They would have, and Obama would have been right to do it anyway. And if Democrats do similarly now, Trump is right to do it anyway.

Correct, which is why we didn’t go with the GOP of old and instead voted in Trump.

There’s been an insurrection in the Republican Party. It’s not complete, and Democrats are doing everything they can to prop up the old guard, but for all the Left’s talk of change, the real revolution has taken place with the old fuddy-duddies on the Right.

Not on the issue of perpetual wars and occupations of sovereign nations. On this issue, the one true party finds common cause. The intervention in Venezuela is just the latest example. Several prominent Dems have announced their support for Trump's moves to further destabilize.

It is surrender if we expect that the Taliban won't stick to the deal, which BTW is something I think most people on the right or left expect. The left just doesn't care. Hopefully the people in charge know what they are doing and this isn't just another "decent interval".

Reflexively agree with you Michael, but have to note public, vociferous objections from GOP’ers re: Syria withdrawal suggests that dynamic is less at work with this administration.
