I honestly can't believe this made it into The Intercept. "Names that are of Hindu origin"? Would it be seen as remotely acceptable to scrutinize political donors on this basis in any other context? https://theintercept.com/2019/01/05/tulsi-gabbard-2020-hindu-nationalist-modi/ …pic.twitter.com/6vOPXRiYLd

What about the irony that Intercept owner Omidyar is a huge fan of Modi's and that senior execs from his fund went to work for him?

Most Indians would laugh at this assertion. In India, Omidyar controls Scroll and Newslaundry - two media 'portals' that publish nothing but Modi bashing. Check for yourself.

Just because #TulsiGabbard has an affinity towards #Hinduism does not mean she should be identified with #Hindutva.

It's like saying every Christian is a fundamental bigot which is not the case . Same goes with tulsi. Until and unless her words or actions show her as fundamentalist , people should restrain from name-calling.

I guess Hindus are still sufficiently otherized in the US/UK that this seems reasonable to otherwise sane people. They should consider why this would be wrong to do for black or Jewish donors, and generalize.

Telegraph is a "progressive" newspaper? Yesterday, they were gushing over a Nehru dynasty scion with ZERO experience "given" leadership role("given" by dynasty themselves). Equivalent would be Chelsea Clinton given DNC Chair. If Telegraph is progressive,David Brock is progressivepic.twitter.com/kA586CKZVE

That's the problem with communists they are so adept at eating each other for power they forget what their cause was all about. Let us not forget the terrible outcomes that arose from totalitarianists. Freedom why ugly at times was really the only thing that made America great.

This is what sprung out at me as well when I first read it. Sounded like the authors were projecting their xenophobia onto Gabbard. I checked the authors of the piece, & it got even murkier. They are of Pakistani origin & also happen to support regime change in Syria. Weird, huh?

I've been wondering.. Tulsi being Hindu, is obviously going to get broad support from the Hindu community, including support from India. Regardless of what she supports ideologically, beyond that. Is this being twisted into support of Hindu nationalists specifically?

It's outrageous. Can you just imagine the outcry if they were looking for *literally any other religion or race* names? But wait, Hindus are fair game as demonstrated over and over again. The hypocrisy makes me wanna stab out my own eyeballs.
