Dear media libs: we know you hate Trump to the point of insanity, but please, don’t side with the cruel tyrant of Venezuela against the people of that oppressed and despoiled country just to spite “Drumpf”

I’m not saying this in a snarky way, I’m honestly asking- what do you mean? Is this not a popular uprising by the Venezuelan people against a despot who cheats in elections, jails the opposition, violates the Constitution, and has ruined the country? How is this a US plot?

As an aside, even though we are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, I enjoy your twitter insights

Et tu
@kmele ? What’s going on here? Seriously, you oppose the move to oust Maduro? Why? -
I was primarily endorsing the notion that we avoid false dichotomies and straw-manning. Beyond that, I’ve got zero objections to Maduro getting bounced, but I’m dispositionally cautious about foreign entanglements (especially when US military assets may become involved).

The situation on the ground is more complicated than that. If they are a country that's organically inclined to remove Maduro, then they will do so.

Recognizing the opposition leader is not US regime change. Do you consider Maduro the legitimate leader of Venezuela?

Did you just classify yourself as a media lib? I think there's a difference between voicing support for a change and sending in the troops.

Right..it is siding with International law and against criminals in our government who forget others have a say. Do we want to be represented by such actions to the rest of the world..isn't bombing babies in ME or asked to support Israeli crimes on Palestinians enough?

What regime change initiative. We recognize what we believe is the legitimate government of any country. Apparently we are not alone in this, the overwhelming majority of the rest of North & South America has also recognized Guiado.

As long as US efforts don't result in any military or quasi-military involvement (e.g., CIA advisors), then I don't think they can be fairly described as a real "regime change initiative."

This would be like saying the U.S. revolution was just a regime change by France. No buddy, the people of Venezuela want this. We aren't giving guns, we aren't sending troops, we aren't funding disinformation campaigns. We are just literally saying enough to a failed dictator

Regime change is volatile and unpredictable, and can often lead to even worse outcomes than those which existed pre-regime change.

So all those people in the streets is a regime change? Just like the American revolution was a French regime change?
