    Michael Tracey Retweeted Marco Rubio

Rubio and other faux moralizers never explain what legal authority the US has to determine the legitimate ruler of Venezuela. It is just presumed, dogmatically, that the US has a divine right to infringe on the sovereignty of whatever countries it wisheshttps://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1088189872593166347 …

    Michael Tracey added,

    Marco RubioVerified account @marcorubio
Maduro has no legal authority to end relations with the U.S. or expel our diplomats. Legal authority rests with President @jguaido who has asked the U.S. & other nations to stay in #Venezuela. The U.S. should not comply with this illegitimate demand. https://twitter.com/MSNBC/status/1088172585714630657 …

US is not determining anything. The national assembly the only democratically elected organism in Venezuela has made Guaido the temporary President. They US is just following the Venezuelan constitution

Maduro was elected. That other parties chose not to participate because they knew they'd lose does not change this fact.

Since when is a foreign leader supporting the constitution of another nation "infringing on their sovereignty"?

The article cited from the Venezuelan Constitution allows only for the Vice President to assume the role of President.

The US's mentality over the last 20 years has been to remake the world in its image even without the approval of the UN Security Council. Heck, even the 1999 Kosovo intervention was done without UNSC approval!

This is called international recognition. I don't even know precisely what happened because facts are not a part of discussion anymore, but based on the stinkstorm I'm guessing there was a vote that Maduro is contesting with brute force.

@marcorubio voted for SB1, a bill that infringes on Americans 1st amendment rights to boycott Israel. He now supports a #coup to remove a democratically elected Venezuelan president & install a U.S. puppet in his place. Why does Marco Rubio hate #democracy both here & abroad?

Exactly what authority is Guaido claiming he has to name himself President? Has there been any type of legal process that has been followed? I know Madura is horrible, but what legal grounds does Guaido have to name himself President? I'm confused lol.

According to their constitution, if the executive meets certain requirements, the leader of the parliament (Guaidó in this case) can be sworn in as interim president. The Venezuelan government apparently thinks Maduro meets these requirements.
