The utility of the "24 hour rule" is more obvious than ever: implement a waiting period before reacting to BOOM BOMBSHELL stories, whether it's a supposed Trump/Russia blockbuster (ahem, BuzzFeed) or the latest ginned-up social media controversy. With regard to Trump/Russia, media who abandon all skepticism and critical reasoning at the slightest hint of some Smoking Gun Bombshell -- even now, after countless catastrophic journalistic failures -- should be treated with absolute contempt. They’re incorrigible hacks.

We watched/followed the Covington Catholic story & knew within an hour on Saturday the story was wrong. We will not wait 24 hrs. The full video was available early Saturday. Both sides did not take time to review info instead tweeting their hate for Trump supporters/Catholics.

Considering the fact that the journalists stand firmly by their story (and considering their track record), and most people can't seem to agree what the special council meant, shouldn't we just...wait and see? I can't proclaim outright that this story was a media failure.

And in the game of journalism poker, 2 on the record sources beats 1 anonymous “source” that only one of the reporters believes.

A 24-hour rule might help. But so would better journalism. Anonymous sources, inuendo, and sensationalism have become the norm among #MSM news. They are no better than gutter gossip tabloids. We must demand better from the press corps. We deserve better.

A good rule. But Mueller hasn't been refuting every marginal source's conspiracy theorizing, just the one that led to a media freakout. So the freakout was the cause of its own end, and a measured response to the Buzzfeed story might still have us ignorant of Mueller's position.

I think it will turn out to be true. Trump instructed Cohen to lie. Trump lies every day. This will not be surprising.

Can you help resolve a professional-incentives mystery: why are journos so eager to piggyback on each other’s claims but so indifferent to get a big scoop debunking a viral story?

Maybe even 48 hours? These are not innocent, rush to judgments or laziness reports. I'M HOME, they are coordinated attacks to form & influence public opinion!
