The smirking kid's name, face, and family background are likely going to be associated with this "incident" for the rest of his life. How is that remotely proportionate? He'll probably be fine, but this entire online outrage system is totally divorced from any notion of fairness.

I understand the sometimes disgusting behavior of Twitter mobs. I get it. It's not ok. That does not absolve them all from making a thousand wrong choices, only to be called out on the thousand and first. Again, Twitter mobs bad. Subjugation of women and racism... worse.

I think it IS the operative factor. There are millions of people who hate the kid simply because he attended the rally and supports Trump. They don’t even care about the facts of the interaction—they want his life ruined (death threats, expulsion, etc.).
