Not long ago, there was doom-saying about how Trump would declare a "National Emergency," which (wrongly) conjured images of martial law. Instead, he's repeatedly pleaded for bipartisanship. It's still a ridiculous situation, but needlessly frightening people is also ridiculous.

But he said yes. Repeatedly I recall. And Pence. Both Trump and rest of establishment benefit from this dynamic. Keeps everyone partisan calcified tense, and not looking at issues.
