Not long ago, there was doom-saying about how Trump would declare a "National Emergency," which (wrongly) conjured images of martial law. Instead, he's repeatedly pleaded for bipartisanship. It's still a ridiculous situation, but needlessly frightening people is also ridiculous.

Didn’t he say he was considering it? Isn’t he part of that fear driving mechanism?

The genesis of it was when a reporter asked him if he would consider declaring a National Emergency. Prior to that, he hadn't mentioned it.

Our decicit is 1.3 TRILLION Dollars a year. One day of that is 3.6 billion. Trump is asking for a single/two days of debt to be used to beef up border security. We need to cut all spending including this among other things. Our total debt exceeds 22 trillion.

Well trump brought it up himself several times so there’s also that, not so much a doom warning out of nowhere if he states it himself

Carlin was great, but he never took on the actual difficulties of governance, at least that I'm aware of.

Maybe check your (recent) history about where the real fear-mongering about martial law has come from. Maybe Article I while you're at it.

If the media would stop the weekly coronation of Nancy Pelosi they can get around to asking her serious questions. At some point they surely have to ask who the heck are you to be against adding to barriers that are already there.

Both parties are certainly guilty of the manufacture of bogeymen. It's almost like they think people aren't to be trusted with political decisions untainted by hyperbole.

Bipartisanship was the bill on his desk that was approved 100-0. National emergency is an irresponsible misreading of executive powers.

Trump created a national emergency by conspiring with McConnell to shut down the government. It’s unacceptable for him to pursue his policy with economic terrorism against helpless workers
