After the first Trump-Kim summit last June, there were mass predictions in the media/think tank world that the entire endeavor would soon collapse spectacularly, because it was all just an empty PR stunt. Now a second summit is planned, and negotiations continue. Imagine that.

Are there more or fewer Nuclear devices in North Korea than before the summit? Is the North Korean nuclear program more advanced or less advanced?

Have tensions between the United States and North Korea increased or decreased? Are channels for diplomatic engagement opening, or closing? Is the military-industrial complex in favor of these summits, or against them?

One can only hope this will end in positive outcomes for the North Korean people.

This. No one seems to remember that partisan advantage is nothing compared to millions of imprisoned North Koreans.

So the only purpose of the first summit was to plan a second summit?

Who, specifically, predicted “spectacular collapse”? I thought the chief criticism was that the summit would be ineffective and would result only in legitimizing the Kim regime? So what actual steps have been taken since the first summit to denuclearize NK? What has changed?

The tone of internal propaganda has shifted. There seem to be steps being taken to prepare for some detente. I’d imagine it isn’t easy for a bloody dictator to get rid of the boogey man he uses to scare his people into compliance. Kim seems to be making steps to do it.

Didn't North Korea send back to the US dozens of soldiers killed during the Korean War? What has the US given them? Answer is nothing!

I hope we have more opportunities to promote "side eye" from Kim's sister towards Mike Pence as proof that none of this will work.

And, in between, all kinds of progress has been made between South Korea and North Korea on the path to peace and small steps towards reunification of some sort (like a railway).
