Obama was from a secular household and still opposed gay marriage on theological grounds until he was 50+ years old. Tulsi Gabbard was from a religiously conservative household, with a domineering activist father, and reformed her beliefs by her late 20s. Who was more expedient?

It is admirable that she changed her views on same sex marriage and got evolved. But did she do it because it was politically convenient to be ok with it. Obama and Hillary were for same sex marriage only when there was massive support for it

She had an experience some years ago while in the army in the Middle East where she came face to face with how religion + government can destroy peoples lives by deciding who/who not they could love, who was or who was not equal. +

This why I say anything a person said before Obama said ‘marriage is between a man and a woman’ (2006 I think) can’t be judged by modern values

I'm all in for #Bernie2020 but don't like the venom being directed at @TulsiGabbard - we shouldn't be eating our own. Any chance they're creating a balance of progressives in that clusterf*ck of candidates?😊

No, we should call out hate of any kind, regardless of party. It is fine, even preferable, to have ideological differences, but expressing hate to groups on the margins is and should be a non-starter.

Dishonesty from you. Tulsi was anti-gay crusader and personally considered them all an aberration. She supported ill treatement of gay people (conversion therapy?). She wasn't passingly anti-gay marriage. That was her shtick. Obama...not so.

Obama withheld his support from same sex marriage until public sentiment caught up, which is something for which people can validly criticize him. Gabbard actively crusaded against LGBT rights and promoted and aligned herself with anti-gay hate. She’s also still an Islamophobe.

She said a few yrs ago she has the same beliefs & has obscene financial ties to BJP. East Asian scholars note: if you would oppose someone associated w/ white nationalism, oppose Hindu nationalism. she couldn’t even oppose Steve Bannon in her quest for power. Not believable!

Gabbard's anti-LGBT views went far beyond advocating civil unions rather than marriage equality. Read what she said about gay people. Obama never said anything remotely comparable.

I find it interesting that the est. media pounced only on Sanders&Gabbard but not Warren or Harris et al. I have issues w/ TG & BS, but I have even more w/the others. Their records are questionable, but the est. media’s uneven approach& double standards are obvious &troubling.

Couldn't give a toss who was more expedient. I'd be more focused on the ability to change and not letting your beliefs be shaped only by a long distant past but also a more relevant present.
