She's repeatedly repudiated these views, the most ugly of which were expressed at age 22, and she's laid out the reasons she harbored them (growing up in a conservative household, later rejecting the state as an arbiter of morality). When is it enough? https://twitter.com/KFILE/status/1084815868595445760 …

Some of these events occurred when she was a *teenager.* I think most of us understand what it means to be under a parent's sway. Then we develop adult cognitive capacities, have life experiences, and form our own independent views. It's still notable info, but disqualifying...?pic.twitter.com/GGUMFjPseI

      Michael Tracey Retweeted Monica Lewinsky

As noted here, you have to evaluate these shifts according to various subjective criteria: sincerity vs. opportunism, actions subsequently taken to redress harms, etc. People can reasonably come to different conclusions, but it's not black/whitehttps://twitter.com/MonicaLewinsky/status/1084831091184168966 …

agree. what’s challenging: 1. the relationship between their beliefs + actions. severe actions in the past make it harder to accept changed beliefs. 2. sincerity/authenticity. e.g. politicians who change for the polls. but as a collective we know/feel it’s b.s.

So why do Obama and Clinton (who is consistently surrounded by rumors suggesting she still privately opposed marriage equality) get the "I evolved" free pass while Gabbard doesn't? Easy. It has nothing to do with LGTBQ rights & everything to do with the establishment.

Obama refused to include LGBT rights during his campaigns & never took any political action in support of them. Yet when the first polling was released showing majority support for same sex marriage, he publicly stated his own support & somehow got credit for a court decision.

Does integrity, i.e. not adopting popular stances or abandoning unpopular ones out of opportunism ("for the polls"), have inherent value or value only if aligned with current bien pensant pieties? An accreting laundry list of litmus tests renders politician integrity impossible.

Tulsi Gabbard has been outspoken about all her beliefs throughout her career. She provided clear explanations for her change in opinion on LGBTQ rights. Since then, her comments & voting have been consistently supportive of the LGBTQ community.

It’s hard to apply the “political expediency” argument to Tulsi’s change of heart because she tends to speak out on things she strongly believes in even when it’s not politically expedient. (ie criticizing the DNC early in 2016).

The criticism of Gabbard's opinion on homosexuality is legitimate compared to this (Gabbard is attacked for being a Hindu and Hinduism is equated with Nazism)pic.twitter.com/p0oM0h4OTM

Keep responding like this for a few decades and then you will realize that there is no good faith. It is the same as Romney painted as a bully by hearsay about a non-event in high school. The media are scum.
