Are there legitimate points of criticism for Tulsi Gabbard? Of course, as with any politician. But note the particularly virulent outrage she inspires among select quarters of the liberal/left -- they loathe her with special intensity -- and ask yourself what that signifies.

Yes she thinks the war on terror is a legitimate thing and doesn’t seem to understand the war on terror by design was a long term multiple nation regime change operation. Is that not a legitimate criticism to you?

Where did she endorse the Bush-era notion of a "War on Terror"? Legitimately asking. I'm aware that she's endorsed various counter-terrorism measures, but as far as I know, not under the far-reaching Bush rubric.

So will men who prefer Beto to Tulsi be mocked as “Beto Bros” and accused of sexism? My guess is no, because the media swoons for him whereas they were desperate to push false narratives to bring Bernie down.

I'm on the left & anti-war, but I'm smart enough to understand that Tulsi Gabbard is not on the left. That's because I: * support LGBTQ folks * oppose Islamophobia * support reproductive justice Not going to sell out huge chunk of the population. That's not my left.

The loathing also signifies that many on the left are suspicious of all those who make apologies for violent authoritarians like Assad and Putin, because we understand those are our enemies too.

Corporate democrats aren’t actually ‘left’ at all - a fact that becomes glaringly obvious next to anyone with authentic progressive principles. It’s also why they direct such vitriol at Bernie Sanders.

Yes. Yes there is. But I think most of the criticism misses the mark: i think it boils down to her being raised in a new age cult turned hard conservative, and her political career bring launched through ultra rightwing Hindu money networks, who influenced her voting record.

in interviews, and according to staff I personally contacted in 2016, she has tried to distance herself from that, as well as repudiating her earlier beliefs about gays; but these issues are way too recent, and accusations of islamophobia and "rightwing" are easy answers.

A more nasty line of attack actually plays right into the hand of nationalists, where there is no political risk in turning her Hindu identity into a negative (the Apu syndrome), unlike other religions where you are severely sanctioned for bigotry.

Her views identically reflect the right wing of India. They cozied up to Iran and its surrogates/allies along with Afghanistan as a counter-balance to the US’s closeness with Saudi and Pakistan after the Soviet Invasion. Assad is part of the Shia Crescent.
