1- I thought it seemed like a slapped together film with not great attention to detail (besides Bale himself), weak set pieces, poor use of stock footage. 2- narratively just as an emotional or weighty story it fell flat, it felt like a surface level re-enactment
Politically/historically there were some strong points but the filmmakers thought truncating Cheney’s history and showing you the steps of the ‘unitary executive’ was more important than making you feel any emotion about his trajectory or his character.
All in all it reminded me of Stone’s W which is a lighter more surface level look at the Bush presidency VS the in depth character study of Nixon. W one of Stones weaker films was actually more well done than this imo.
One glaring piece of historical revisionism in the film: claim even “Israel” was against US invasion of IRaq. But . . . https://youtu.be/JVsn5lk9L9g
