The most frivolous part of "Vice" was the heavy insinuation that Lynne Cheney's father killed her mother in 1973. As far as I can tell, there's zero basis for this. If you have to totally fabricate something in order to weave your narrative arc, maybe go back to the drawing board

I agree Bale was great, and that alone was worth seeing the movie for, but it could've been put together so much more smartly and subtly, and without random conspiratorial tack-ons.

It reminds me of JFK, a fascinating piece of filmmaking that bears little relation to the historical record.

Been awhile since I've seen JFK but I remember a more compelling narrative structure than Vice.

Oh, JFK is vastly superior in every way. I’m just saying you can enjoy the movies even if they’re a pack of lies. See also, The Social Network.

Sure but it's bizarre to throw in one random lie, when everything else seemingly at least attempts to adhere to the factual record.

I’m not sure I agree Vice is attempting to be factual.

What other parts are just completely made up, and have no conceivable relationship to the historical record (granting artistic license)?

The idea that Cheney was the puppetmaster behind everything, and that people like Rumsfeld, Rice, and Powell were either sucked along in his wake or he flat out ordered them what to do.

That's a debatable interpretation of history, not an outright fabrication of facts.

I read an article from Rumsfeld’s former something or other that said Rumsfeld’s actions and words bore zero relation to Carell’s, for example.

Well he would say that, wouldn't he. I wonder how Himmler would react to the portrayal of Hitler in Der Untergang. perhaps someone should give him an interview.
