Isn't this a good reason not to take Trump's occasional anti-interventionist mutterings seriously?

It's good reason to be wary of whether his staff and the wider bureaucracy will actually ever implement his "anti-interventionist mutterings."

Bolton's strategy isn't sustainable in the long term. Eventually, Trump-- now distracted by domestic issues-- will turn around & "re-discover" that billions of dollars are still being wasted on Syria and call for rapid pullout againhttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1081925863346704384 …

While John Bolton has never met a Middle East conflict he didn’t want the US to be a part of, I would be willing to bet that Sheldon Adelson had more to do with Bolton’s ability to slow down the withdrawal of troops from Syria than anything else.
-
That's actually not totally accurate. He views conflict as an inevitable result of dozens of policy failures that failed so badly conflict is the only solution

It's not the smart thing to do. The only thing we're accomplishing, by prolonging, is making more 1) Refugees 2) Terrorist 3) Veterans.
