I think a lot of people are doing that the other way around. Getting some people to talk policy is like trying to get a cat to play fetch.

Wishful thinking. Just look at the adoration for the war criminals who know which fork to use.

Eh. Not sure about that. I'd rather propose the "if you believe they will make your life better" standard. Which is what I believe most people who don't sift through policy papers, by necessity of their lives & the free time available, have to go by. Policy details are tough.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "agree". Many pols promise some action having some result, and to understand the "how" is usually a very intensive research effort that might end up countering the politician's own proposal. I doubt it goes beyond superficiality for many.

Yes. + It's so disingenuous & never used across the board. They do this with bad policies. Maintaining never-ending wars as well.

They have this amazing new process to screen out the unlikeable candidates from the likeable ones. They're called primaries.

I used to think there wasn’t a sincere cohort around Beto. I thought it was ginned up by hired hands, consisted of a few weird rich people. But there are. They find him likeable & many voters want someone they can grab a beer with.Trump & Obama also exemplify cult of personality

My dear old friend was charismatic & likeable. I must be to some extent (at least to him) that he retained me while dumping other leftists. I’m anecdotal evidence of likeable =/ political alignment. ;) in fact it’s easier to deceive this way!! campaigns are advertising campaigns!

have to say that meta-commentary on politics-as-personality-contest is just as much a meaningless distraction as the personality contest itself, an extension of the TV mentality, no matter how smart. Talk policy if you want to change the culture. Don't regurgitate the tube feed.

I think Sanders is a complete mensch, but I know he hasn’t a chance.

Not necessarily. I didn’t agree with Obama on pretty much anything, but I found him “likeable” as far as his affability and personality. I agreed more with Clinton (Bill), still not someone I voted for, and he was “likeable.” As long as you were a woman he didn’t want to rape.
